Overview
Yolanda’s interest in Computer Science started with an opportunity to TA a technology
based course for engineers at the University of Michigan. As a graduate student at
Carnegie Mellon, she earned an MS with a focus on data modeling and programming. After
stints at Rice University and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System,
she was presented with the opportunity to take on an entrepreneurial challenge and
joined a technology/finance Harvard Business School start-up.
Following its success and acquisition, she continued to pursue similar opportunities
related to software, eventually retiring from Citrix systems in a corporate strategy
leadership role. She currently manages funding from the National Science foundation, USDA, Google,
Microsoft, Sandia National Labs, and Los Alamos National Labs in pursuit of equitable
computer science education. She serves on Michigan CS steering committee, the IEEE
Quantum education committee, is a board member of Elevate Quantum Workforce Collaborative
(EQWC), and the treasurer on the board of the Computer Science Teachers Association. She is
the cofounder of Computer Science Alliance and a faculty member at Gogebic Community
College teaching computer science.
