This information regarding the Student Portion of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was updated on September 30th, 2022.

Gogebic Community College submitted the CARES Act Certification and Agreement for the student portion of the federal CARES Act funds to the Department of Education on April 14th, 2020. You can review the Certification and Agreement document here.

The total amount of funds that the institution has received from the Department pursuant to the institution's Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students is $1,770,729.

$401,626.00.00 in student portion CARES Act funds have been disbursed to students as of 6/30/2021. $703,077.76 in total COVID-19 relief aid has been granted to students. Other sources of COVID-19 relief aid disbursed to students includes:

The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 642. This includes Spring, Summer, and Fall 2020 enrollments.

664 students have received CARES Act grants as of 6/30/2021. 705 total unique students have received some form of COVID-19 related aid.

The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act are listed here:
- Spring 2020: Students received funds based on applications for emergency relief aid. $10,994 of student HEERF I funds was awarded based on applications. An additional
$22,400 in FSEOG funds was awarded based on applications, and $19,750 was used to
provide refunds for students in the residence halls who chose to move out during the
semester.
- Summer 2020: $16,531.65 from student HEERF I funds was distributed to all Title IV eligible students
based on enrolled credits in the Summer 2020 semester. These funds were disbursed
on 6/18/2020. An additional $5,833.02 from student HEERF I funds was awarded based
on applications.
- Fall 2020: $245,853.13 from student HEERF I funds was distributed to all Title IV eligible students
based on enrolled credits in the Fall 2020 semester. These funds were disbursed on
9/25/2020. $41,155.23 from the CARES Act student portion was awarded based on applications.
An additional $9,068.52 in FSEOG funds, $1,900.45 in Financial Aid Adjustment funds,
and $2,644.76 in CARES Act institutional funds were awarded based on applications.
- Spring 2021: $10,268.97 from student HEERF I funds was awarded to eligible students based on enrolled
credits for the Spring 2021 semester. These funds were disbursed on 2/10/2021. An
additional $202,106.03 from HEERF I institutional funds and $13,480.00 from student
HEERF II funds was also awarded.
- Summer 2021: $57,510.00 from student HEERF III funds was awarded to eligible students based on
enrolled credits for the Summer 2021 semester. These funds were disbursed on 6/16/2021.
An additional $43,582.00 in FSEOG funds was awarded equally to all eligible enrolled
students for the summer term.
- Fall 2021: $317,156 from HEERF II funds and $312,444 from HEERF III funds was awarded to eligible
students based on enrolled credits for the Fall 2021 semester. These funds were disbursed
on 10/8/2021. An additional $7,350 in FSEOG funds was also awarded.
- Spring 2022: $751,433 from HEERF III funds was awarded to eligible students based on enrolled credits for the Spring 2022 semester. These funds were disbursed on 02/04/2022.
- Spring 2020: Students received funds based on applications for emergency relief aid. $10,994 of student HEERF I funds was awarded based on applications. An additional
$22,400 in FSEOG funds was awarded based on applications, and $19,750 was used to
provide refunds for students in the residence halls who chose to move out during the
semester.
