Social Science and Education Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Clearly and concisely document observations, incidents, and reports and deliver instructions and directions to inmates professionally and authoritatively.  
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of corrections officers in fostering a safe and rehabilitative environment.  
  • Utilize technology to document incidents, track inmate movement, and access critical information.  

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Analyze and explain the interrelationships between law enforcement, courts, and corrections within the criminal justice system. 
  • Apply critical thinking skills to analyze information retrieved from various sources to solve problems and make ethical decisions in the criminal justice field.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to present criminal justice information clearly, concisely, and persuasively to a variety of audiences. This includes engaging in thoughtful dialogue and discussions, demonstrating critical thinking and professional demeanor. Students will demonstrate effective communication skills when drafting reports, interviewing individuals, and presenting information in a court setting.
  • Analyze criminal justice data using appropriate quantitative methods and technology to construct sound arguments supported by numerical and statistical evidence by utilizing data to understand crime trends, resource allocation, and program effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct consistent with professional standards and address cultural diversity and implicit bias within the criminal justice system.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Critically analyze and interpret social, political, cultural, and economic institutions or processes across a range of time periods of history. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to reach conclusions/make arguments based on scholarly research across a range of historical topics.  
  • Identify and research a diversity of perspectives, cultural understandings, and ways of thinking about national and global developments. 
  • Communicate effectively orally and through writing about historical issues and debates. 

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Critical Thinking & Information Literacy: Graduates of the program will be able to use critical thinking, skeptical inquiry and apply psychological concepts, theories, and research findings to individual, social, and cultural issues across various fields of psychology. 
  • Communication, Expression & Cultural Awareness: Graduates of the program will be able to demonstrate effective communication skills through identifying psychological research, application, and analysis related to behavior and mental processes.  
  • Inquiry, Problem Solving, & Ethics: Graduates of the program will be able to apply basic research methods in psychology, with sensitivity to ethical principles. 
  • Future Learning, Transfer & Career Preparation: Graduates of the program will demonstrate preparedness to further their education and/or enter the workforce.  

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Critical Thinking & Information Literacy: Graduates of the program will be able to use critical thinking and apply theoretical frameworks to assess individual development and behavior. 
  • Communication, Expression & Cultural Awareness: Graduates of the program will be able to demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with diverse populations through research, application and analysis related to behavioral sciences. 
  • Inquiry, Problem Solving, & Ethics: Graduates of the program will demonstrate ethical appropriate behavior and decision making guided by the standards and values of the social work profession.
  • Future Learning, Transfer & Career Preparation: Graduates of the program will demonstrate preparedness to further their education at baccalaureate level. 

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Communicate their professional teaching and learning philosophy.
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of the history, theories, methodologies, and trends of the current education system.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of inclusive classroom practices, student assessment, and cultural competence in order to support the achievement of a diverse population of students.
  • Understand teacher licensure program requirements and have a plan for coursework and transfer process in order to ensure successful transfer to four-year institution for teacher licensure program.
