Dual Enrollment
  • High school students can demonstrate academic readiness at the college level in English and Math on one of the following state approved tests: EXPLORE, PLAN, ACT, Accuplacer (offered at GCC, free of charge), MME, PSAT, SAT with the appropriate qualifying scores.
  • Students can begin taking classes in grades 9-12 once college readiness is determined. Students must have approval from their high school prior to registering for classes.
  • Michigan school districts typically pay for up to 10 classes grades 9-12 for college level courses not offered at your respective high school.
  • Wisconsin Schools are
Early College
  • This is a five year high school program designed to allow high school students to earn a: high school diploma, an associate's degree, certificate or 60 college credits through an additional year of study, provided that you meet the minimum requirements in English and Math based on your program of interest.
  • You must declare Early College prior to your junior year of high school.
  • Schools that participate with an Early College program include: Calumet, Dollar Bay, Hancock, Lake Linden-Hubbell, Ironwood, Bessemer, Wakefield-Marenisco, Ewen-Trout Creek, Ontonagon and Watersmeet.

1. Apply for admission or obtain a paper copy from your high school guidance office.

2. Submit your ACT or SAT scores to the Admissions Office to determine eligibility. You can also complete the college assessment test at GCC in Ironwood or Houghton to become eligible. The assessment test is computerized, untimed and FREE of charge. To schedule the placement test in Ironwood, call (906) 307-1209 or (906) 483-0070 in Houghton.

3. Complete the dual enrollment course registration form or the early college registration form. This form must be completed each semester while still in high school. Contact the Admissions Office for assistance with course selection (906) 307-1347.

4. Attend an in person high school orientation session in Ironwood or Houghton. Information is sent to each new high school student with the day and time of the session prior to the fall semester. It typically lasts approximately one hour and we guide you through everything you need to be successful (how to check your email, log into online classes, how to read a syllabus, etc.)
