This job choice is for people who like to solve problems by using a standard process. Small business, large business, manufacturers, service organizations, non-profits and social organizations, and government agencies employ people in the accounting department. The program at GCC is a great way to begin your accounting education. We have a fully transferable program to Northern Michigan University, or you could earn an associate's degree and begin employment upon graduation. Bookkeepers, Accountants, and Auditing Clerks compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. They perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. They may also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers.
