Extracurricular activities

Extracurricular activities are an important part of a student's college education. There are abundant opportunities for participation in the various activities and organizations at GCC.

The following organizations are sanctioned by the College:

  • The Student Senate
  • Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society
  • Musical Organizations--instrumental and vocal
  • Drama Association
  • THE CHIEFTAIN Student Newspaper
  • Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship
  • Athletics

Intercollegiate Men's and Women's Basketball

GCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and Region XIII. Competition is mainly with other two-year colleges in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, as well as with various four-year colleges and universities.

Intramural Sports

The intramural program at GCC provides opportunities for competition in a variety of seasonal sports. The program consists of touch football, volleyball, basketball, softball, tennis, golf, bowling, and archery. Other sports are offered according to student interest.

Mt. Zion Ski Hill

Mt. Zion is a fully-operational alpine ski area located directly adjacent to the campus. GCC students carrying a minimum of 10 credit hours qualify for a free season's pass. The hill is run by GCC's nationally-acclaimed Ski Area Management Program. Students and community members participate in various "learn-to-ski" programs during the winter season. It is also circled by a groomed cross country ski trail.

Lindquist Student Center

The Lindquist Student Center is designed to provide opportunities for a balanced physical fitness education program and student social, cultural, and recreational activities. Included in the facility are:

  • an 11,205 square foot gymnasium
  • six-lane competitive swimming pool
  • 1/11 mile indoor walking track
  • aerobics area
  • weight room
  • Courtside cafeteria with meeting/banquet facilities
  • student lounge and game area
  • student organization offices
  • a performing area
