Greetings from Gogebic!
For almost 75 years, Gogebic Community College has been changing lives for the better. I know because I’m a 1973 graduate and every year the value of my educational experiences at GCC becomes more evident. I’m also more keenly aware because my father, David Sr., is a 1948 graduate and my son Drew a 2003 graduate.
When I think back on my years at GCC, I remember the informative classroom discussions, the many student activities and the close bonds between students . . . I remember the friendly student-centered environment providing an excellent foundation for my future college plans . . . and I remember the student government leadership development experiences provided to me. But above all, I remember the dedicated faculty and staff who were committed to not just my future goals, but the individual goals of each student at GCC.
GCC’s commitment to quality education and the needs of its students continues to date. And today I stand in awe of the growth that has taken place at GCC over the years. We now have a state-of-the-art facility that has become a centerpiece of our community. The GCC Foundation, created in 1977 to provide funding to enhance the academic excellence at the College, has mirrored the growth of the College.
The ongoing support by alumni and friends of GCC has been a key element of this growth. In today’s educational world of restricted budgets, increasing costs and growing student and institutional needs, continuing to provide a quality education is an ever bigger challenge. The Foundation has risen to the challenge and works hand-in-hand with the College to provide financial assistance institutionally and to its students. But, this assistance could not take place without the support of the alumni and friends through the Foundation.
I am but one of the thousands of proud alumni of GCC, many of whom have expressed a desire to give back to the College that has provided so much for us. The most important way that we can each help maintain and increase the strength of GCC is to support the Foundation’s Annual Fund Drive.
Every gift helps advance the mission of the College and helps the Foundation support projects such as student scholarships, building needs, computer and technological advances on campus, student activities, and arts and culture, to name a few.
All gifts are greatly appreciated and will make a real difference in the lives of our students and the tradition of excellence in education at GCC.
