Gogebic Community College Foundation to Host 7th Annual Florida Pasty PicnicThe Gogebic Community College Foundation will be hosting the 7th Annual Pine-to-Palm Pasty Picnic at the Peridia Golf and Country Club in Bradenton, Florida on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This year our event will include an informational presentation titled, “From Sawgrass to Sugarcane: Cultural Stories of the Everglades” presented by Jessica R. Cattelino, Associate Professor of Anthropology, UCLA. Jessica, originally from Saxon, WI., is in Florida on a research project and has agreed to share her research experiences with us! This picnic provides an opportunity for friends and alumni of GCC to gather and celebrate the achievements, accomplishments and continued success of GCC while feasting on an upper peninsula specialty, the pasty. Anyone who lives in Florida or will be visiting the area during that time is invited and encouraged to attend! Tickets for the picnic are $25.00 each, or $40.00 per couple, with all proceeds from the event supporting the ‘Pine-to-Palm Scholarship’ at GCC. To purchase tickets for the Palm-to-Pine Pasty Picnic, be placed on the mailing list for future events, or support the Foundation, please contact Kelly Marczak, GCC Foundation Director at (906) 932-4231, ext. 202 or email alumni@gogebic.edu.
